The Tamil Nation

The Tamils are one of the world's oldest living civilizations, with a rich heritage spanning over 3,000 years. Our language, Tamil (தமிழ்), is one of the longest-surviving classical languages in the world.

The Tamil homeland in the north and east of the island of Ceylon (Sri Lanka) has been inhabited by Tamils for millennia. We have our own distinct language, culture, legal traditions, and historical governance structures.

Today, over 80 million Tamils live worldwide, united by our shared heritage and our aspiration for a free and independent Tamil Eelam.
